Author’s Background-Flannery O Connor was an only child and was born on March 25, 1925, in Savannah, Georgia. She lost her father when she was a teenager. She studied Writing in the University of Iowa for a masters and published her first short story called â€Å"The Geranium† in 1946. She wrote novels but is mostly well known for her short stories. She received various award throughout her carries, one of those being O. Henry Award in 1957. After fighting lupus for more than a decade, she died in August 3, 1964. Summary of Text-As the story begins we learn that the grandmother doesn’t want go on a trip to Florida but Rather instead wants to go to Tennessee to visit some of her connections. The grandmother tries to convince her son Bailey to change his mind about going to Florida and gives him various reasons not to take the family to Florida. After having no success, the family sets on the road toward Florida. Before leaving the house the grandmother hides her cat in a basket and puts on hat with flowers on it so that people know that she is a â€Å"lady† if there’s an accident along the way. Along the way the grandmother tell some stories before stopping at a restaurant. The restaurant is called the Tower and is owned by Red Sammy and his wife. The grandmother and Red Sammy engage in a conversation and realize that they have like minds. When they get back on the road the grandmother realizes that a plantation the she once visited is nearby.
